I just checked the exterior refrigerator cooling fan on our 179. I shorted the 2 wires going to the thermostat and the fan immediately came on. so, I know the thermostat works. Then I used a hairdryer and my IR heat gun to check the operating temperatures. The fan came on at 170 and turned off at 120.
This was in preparation for adding a new 12v fan in the refrigerator compartment. I got the fan out of an old computer.I mounted it vertically in the ceiling just in front of the exhaust tube blowing to the exterior. Hopefully this will assist the hot exhaust gas and heat to escape the compartment.
While doing this, I also extended the lower baffle by 2" to force the incoming air closer to the back of the refrigerator. I have already covered all of the refrigerator vent panels with screen wire to keep out the nesters.
