Topic: Window In Door - Shade Access Posted: 07 Nov 2020 at 1:31pm |
So, I had a window with shade installed in my entry door.
The thing I forgot about is access through the screen! To move the shade, I have to open the door, open the screen and adjust the shade.
I like the window and the shade, but is there a way to change/modify the screen door so I can change the shade without opening the door? How do the newer 180s do it?
I can and may just remove the screen door. I can't imagine a use for it.

I put one in a 2021 192 and you have to open the door separate from the screen to raise/lower the shade.

Yes, but I don't want to do that. One purpose is to see who is knocking at the door.

You probably could get creative with some velcro and cut a patch or slit in the screening and close it up with another piece of screening with velcro. If that doesn't help get a ring doorbell. Just couldn't resist the ring doorbell idea Have fun

I also liked the idea of being able to see who might be knocking on the door of our Rpod, but my husband and I like sleeping in total darkness, so we did not want to add a window to the door of our 179. Instead, we ordered a 290 degree peep hole and installed it at my eye level in the wall next to the door. We can see any person standing outside our door right down to their feet, even if they are standing right next to the step on the ground. Much cheaper option then a window and more secure IMHO then a window in the door. I think I recently saw a 290 degree peep hole in Home Depot when looking at mailbox keys locks.
And you don’t have to remove or ruin the screen door. For what it’s worth!

Wow. Our screen door is in constant use. I don't know what we'd to without it on those warm summer nights to keep the bugs out. Guess it depends where you camp....

I understand. But, I don't "camp", yet. I bought it to use at a disaster site. So far, opening the 4 windows have been plenty of ventilation.

Understood. We all have different requirements, its great that rpods are versatile and modifiable enough to meet lots of needs.

I installed our shade upside down so we can leave it open a little bit at the top and see out the door. Not sure how yours is mounted/constructed but you are be able to take the inside frame off and flip it around...if you're so inclined. Works great for us!
