Hello everyone. We have a 2012 RPOD 182G with the garage in the back. I am looking for advice and ideas for an awning to cover the door area like most other campers and the new R Pods have. We have an R Dome already but it is not exactly what we want. I would prefer to NOT drill holes and use the rail to attach the awning. For the right situation I would consider drilling. Any suggestions are welcome.
Thank you! Scott

First off, the 2012 RPod was not made to mount an awning. There were changes in the framing to allow for the awning that your 2012 model does not have. That being said, there are some alternatives. Early on, I made an awning for our 2016 RP179 (before it went to the factory for repair that involved replacing the side with the reinforced side). Purchase some Keder insert (Look on Amazon) and get some vinyl coated material. Use an industrial grade sewing machine to sew it to the Keder insert. Purchase some extending tent poles and put some grommets in the outer edge of your awning. It won't be quite as convenient as an automatic or even manual crank-out awning, but it might suit you better than the R-Dome. See my mods for my homemade awning (link in signature).

I posted this in March. Down thread a nice forum member posted a more accessible image. Mine was very easy, inexpensive and I've been happy wiht it when I don't want to bother with the Rdome.
I'm traveling so sewing the keder strip isn't possible. I'm using heavy duty suction cups, adjustable poles and a "sail shade" all from Amazon for about &75. It's working really well. Maybe this link will show it off: https://twitter.com/julieingersoll/status/1500942653935931394?s=20&t=6fpeHaN1-4Ho8BIxpkGHUg |

I'm not sure if you are talking about a built-in awning or an awning that is installed via the keder rail as Stephen suggested. if i is the keder rail type, here is a picture of what we made for our 179 we started with a standard8x12 tarp, sewed the keder edging to it and used 3 adjustable tent poles. I made a separate ride pole for the center which gives the awning more structure and makes it drain easier in heavier rains. this is the fitting I made for the ridge pole if this is the type of awning that you are interested in, email me and I can send more pictures and info.
