During our first summer camping trip in a 2020 R-Pod RP189, the outside ambient air temperature was 98 degrees F and the trailer air conditioner was only able to cool the inside to 87 degrees F. It is worth noting that this was the middle of the day, clear skies, no shade, and at 4,600 feet altitude. I understand that RVs in general are not well insulated.
Is it reasonable to only expect 12 degree F cooling under these conditions? Thanks in advance! JT

In general, the air conditioner can cool to about 15-20 degrees below than the temperature outside. Being in full sun will definitely impact the unit's ability to cool.

Rpods aren't well insulated but they compensate by installing oversized a/c units for their size. I never had any trouble getting my 179 cooled comfortably down even in direct sun with temps in the high nineties and high humidity.
So my first impression is that something's not quite right with your a/c. Are the evaporator or condenser fins really dirty? One other possibility is evaporator freeze up, especially if you encountered high humidity. Does it seem to be blowing the normal amount or air? Beyond those you'll probably have to have an a/c tech take a look at it. |
