Topic: Fixed leaky AC Posted: 01 Aug 2011 at 10:24am |
Our Pod AC started leaking this weekend. I of course was generally put off by this fact, however I resigned the first days to just moving the bathmat over to the dripping spot.
With a bit of time locked indoors because of Thunderstorms I got to fiddling around with things and thinking about it. My first thought was, hmmm I better check and clean the air filters. Pulled them both out, and yes they were pretty filthy. Cleaned, dried, and replaced them both and after a short time after restarting the AC the dripping completely stopped and never dripped again the following days of our trip. I'm assuming the blocked air flow caused some icing up of the coils and at the end of the cooling cycle the small particulates of ice or frost melted and caused my drips. So there ya go, reminder to clean those air fliters more often. I think we're around 20+ nights in the Pod this season and I'm rather certain cleaning them closer to the 15-20 night mark would have been best.

Interesting, ours started leaking on our last trip. It wasn't rain, we barely had any of that all week, but starting mid-week when I would change the fan from "on" to "auto" in the morning it would then gush out a bunch of water. Some days it would continue to drip a little the rest of the day. I checked the air filters and even cleaned them with the same thought, but that didn't help us. Our dealer tightened the bolts thinking it was condensate running in from outside but I don't think it was. Only time will tell if it fixed the problem.

Hmm I hope I haven't spoken too soon about mine being fixed then. After the cleaning no more drips and that was over a day or more period.
I guess I'll be keeping an eye on things on our next trip and be ready to try additional fixings.
