Topic: Grand Canyon Camping Posted: 28 Oct 2012 at 6:10pm |
Hi All, Back from an amazing trip to Cape Hatteras!! Now we are thinking of planning a run to the Grand Canyon. Does anyone have any names of good campgrounds near the Grand Canyon? Anyone been there that could recommend a nice campground close? Thinking of heading that way mid-april to mid-may.

We have stayed at both the south and north rim campgrounds in the park. The north is by far nicer and less people, only thing we hit snow coming in from jacob lake to the park entrance in early september. There are no hookups but showers and bathroom are close by.

Excellent! Thank you for the response! We are hoping to go around mid-april to mid-may. Are there campgrounds other than the parks in the area that would have full hookups? We are thinking of staying around the Canyon for a week to explore as much as we can.

There are KOA's in both Flagstaff and Williams AZ. that are nice, been to both a few years back. Be aware that you can have snow up there into May in the Flagstaff area, the year that I went to NAU at Flagstaff it snowed through the first week of May. Goose

Leo B,
Don't forget to visit Sedona while you are in the area, and Prescott if you have the time.

We have stayed at Circle Pines KOA in Williams, AZ numerous times. We think it's one of the best KOAs anywhere! We've stayed there just to stay there. They have a great little walking trail that goes up a steep hill - you can see for miles from the top. There is also another KOA in Williams - if you book, be sure you stay at Circle Pines. There's so much to do in the Williams area - Sedona, Old Route 66, a rescue zoo called Bearazona, even the little town of Williams (the KOA is about a 5 minute drive to town). We took the Grand Canyon Railroad from Williams to Grand Canyon once, and it was a definite highlight. Have fun. The Grand Canyon is amazing.

LOL! Good advice! I was in the area a couple of years ago, driving a rental car and staying at hotels. Jerome is a wonderful little town but it's not particularly travel-trailer friendly! It's a beautiful part of the world. I love the Southwest. TT
