Is there a correct method to hooking the safety chains to the TV? Should the hooks go up or down. I've heard both recommended, but I'd like to know for sure which way is correct. Thanks for the help.

Hooks down would give some slight advantage due to gravity if the keeper was broken. Not much though.

Make sure you cross them before attaching them to the TV. Theoretically this will catch the hitch if it comes off of the ball. I've always done it with the ends of the hooks facing down.

Hooks up or down is a "boxers or briefs" question that there is no correct answer to, but everyone has a preference or opinion. However, you decide be sure to cross the chains though.
