San Antonio here. I just winterized yesterday. I use the blowout method with pink stuff in the traps. I also remove the battery (since I cannot keep it plugged in) and connect it to a float\de-sulfinate unit to keep it in tip-top shape during the off season.
You can camp with the unit winterized, many Podders do. You get all the comforts less the water works.
There is not really much (reasonably) that you can do to insulate the POD water parts from freezing resulting in damage, hence the winterization.

One note of Caution: Make sure you de-pressurize the system BEFORE attempting to remove the anode rod.
