My lightly used 177 has the trim loose on the end of the dinette seat. I've seen one modification here where they built a whole new end with a shelf.
I'd prefer an easier fix: Will this trim piece stand up to light adult use if I simply replace the current wood screws/adhesive I see now (located under the trim piece & trim buttons) with machine screws and use fender washers inside the storage area for better retention? Obviously ones butt drags against this raised edge when getting up from the seat. Thanks for your thoughts. |

We felt that the trim was too thin to hold up to much wear and tear, regardless of the fasteners. It feels like either cardboard, or at least very skinny plywood. This is the route we took:

Beautiful work! Did you reinforce the structure inside the bench to hold the new wood? Angle fasteners against the wall?

Wish I could take the credit, but a friend did the woodwork. He did not reinforce the structure, but screwed it into the existing wooden framework on the bench and used angle irons on the top, I believe.

We made an entirely new end trim piece and also remodeled the end of the storage compartment on our 173. We built a double shelf for shoes

I did this similar mod myself, but only because of my personal preference. I've read several posts where people have completely removed the existing, flimsy, end-pieces and their cushions stay in play just fine. Some have removed them and put velcro under the cushions to keep them in place. I'm pretty sure you can do about as easy-a-fix as you'd like and you'll be happy with the results since there's been so many solutions by so many people and everyone seems to be happy with their version of the mod.  |

I took the lazy/easy route for now and drilled clearance hole through the snaps to allow a small machine screw instead of wood threads that had pulled out. I'm a lifelong woodworker and may do something fancier later. I dislike anything that encroaches on the entryway of my 177 pod. Thanks for the replies!
