Congratulations! We made the plunge last year (we also have a 179), and we are on tap to do a trip starting tomorrow.

Well, I officially own a new 179! Brought it home to Texas last weekend after a few nights backpacking in southern Colorado. It's just sitting in the backyard, staring at me, waiting for adventure. I'll start some basic mods tomorrow if I can get over the fear of breaking or permanently marring something. Then in July the first trip with my wife & dog. Can't wait - thanks to all for the many helpful and creative posts, I have learned so much! But there's no teacher like experience...

Thank you! I found a site called "RV Share" and sure enough, you can find people who rent their travel trailers, and at a reasonable rate! I did some searching and found an R-Pod for rent, too. Definitely want to take one camping as rental, first! |

We rented from Mike at http://durangorvrentals.com and camped on the Conejos river.

You can rent R-Pods? Would love to do that. I've only seen RV's for rent and they are crazy expensive for a 3-4 day rental. Congrats on your new purchase. Look forward to hearing about your travels. |

YODT, Welcome to another fly fisherman and your wife. Just purchased our 179 last fall, and had one trip before winterizing. My wife also loved it. Am headed out soon for 2-3 weeks of fly fishing and rpodding.

What engine do you have in your 2012 Escape? If you have anything other than the 3L V6 and the factory tow package, then forget about it. See this guide from Ford for details:
http://www.ford.com/resources/ford/general/pdf/towingguides/12FLRVTT_EscapeJul1.pdf In addition to the trailer tow package, you will need to install a trailer brake controller. The Escape is not pre-wired for this, so you will need to order both the controller and the installation kit. You will be able to tow with the Escape, but you will likely find out that you want something with more power. The 179 and 180 push the top end of the Escape's capabilities. I have a 4L V6 in the Frontier we use now and it has a 6,100 lb tow limit. I find it to be limited, especially at higher elevations. The Escape will be okay at low elevations and relatively mild hills. However, it will be lacking at higher elevations and steeper climbs. |

I would like to purchase the 180 rpod and pull it with a 2012 Ford Escape. I have the trailer package on the vehicle. Has anyone done this? Has anyone experienced problems in doing this?
Thank you |
