We use our microwave in our trailer to store plates and such. On the rare occasions when we have camped with shore power available, the microwave remains as a storage cabinet. I think in the two years we have owned a trailer with a microwave, we've used it once. If it wasn't so much trouble, I'd take it out and store it away so it'd be available to put back in when we eventually sell the trailer. The oven on our 3 burner stove, on the other hand, gets used occasionally to heat up preprepared meals that we cook at home, such as lasagna. It works fine but does heat up the inside of the trailer, so I wouldn't want to use in in hot weather.

Never had one in my 177 and never priced a convection/microwave. We have a simple microwave in our home and are pleased with that. Been married for 46 years and are on our 3rd microwave. First one, a Panasonic lasted 26 years. Our second, Frigidaire was good for another 14 and our newest, an LG has been with us for 6 years. Hopefully the trend doesn't continue as far as longevity goes.

Correction: Microwaves are quite inexpensive. Convection-Microwaves are still quite expensive.
On Amazon, prices for RV Convection-Microwaves start at about $339 and up to well north of $500. OTOH, prices for RV Microwaves start as low as $161 for a FOREST RIVER MCG992ARB .9 MICROWAVE which is a Magic Chef microwave.

Agree, these are cheaply made and once an event like yours happens, simply throw it away (unfortunately) and purchase a new unit. As you know, they are quite inexpensive.

Unfortunately, it does not look good. I don't think the air circulation for them is the best and the heat builds up and does bad things to the electronics. If you don't need the convection part, I think replacing with a straight up microwave is probably a good move.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Finally camping!!! Great week to be out, as very few folks in the campgrounds, I think 4 others. As I may have mention in other posts, its been awhile since the old rpod has been out. Fired up the microwave this eve to heat up some water for Pam as she wanted some hot chocolate. After about a 90 seconds, the microwave shut down completely, including the lighted control panal (like where the clock etc is). After about 2 minutes, the control panel would light up and the microwave would again run for about 90 seconds and shut down. No breakers tripped, etc; would just pop on again on its own (hope that all makes sense). I am assuming this bad biy is fried for one reason or another. Thoughts? jon
