I've been using Gas Buddy for years. Recently, though, I've been using Google Maps which will now display gas w/prices and directions along route. Will also show BBQ along route!

If I'm going to travel any distance, I carry a couple 5 gal. cans of gas in the back of my truck along with the spare tank of propane. I bought a generator after hurricane Sandy along with the two gas cans when I lived in NJ and, of course, never needed them up to the time I moved to the land of wild horses, rattlesnakes and scorpions. Now I've repurposed the gas cans and generator for a new life. We save up our Smith's [Kroger] gas points and fill the truck and the gas cans before a trip so we at least start out with relatively cheap gas and I have extra just in case.

After pulling campers 27,000 miles all over the US over the last 4 years (and many more miles before that) I can say I prefer the truck stops or larger travel-centered gas stations. You can get away with visiting smaller stations with the pod, but not with larger campers. I keep an empty 2 1/2 gallon gas can for emergencies - if I can't fit but I must fill up, I can ferry gas over with the can so I can reach the next gas station.
I also have a rule - if I'm west of the Mississippi and not on the west coast, I never let the gas gauge go below 1/2. East of the river I don't go below 1/4. Even then I almost ran out in west Texas, and did run out in North Dakota. I keep our generator filled and that would have been our emergency gas supply if someone hadn't stopped to help.

I've been using Gas Buddy for a couple of years. I've saved a lot of money on my weekly commuting (~400 miles) with it.

I just signed up for the Gas Buddy App, which gives you the current local gas prices wherever you happen to be. It seems to work a little like WAZE in that users confirm prices so you as close to up to the minute prices as possible.
As for occupying two pumps, short of disconnecting the trailer, there's not much you can do about it except to be as considerate and fast as you can in getting in, gassing up, and getting out. As with any maneuvers into tight spots, be sure you are clear before moving and if there are low barricades, you may want to have a spotter, or at least be aware of them.

Being a newbie to RVs I am extremely cautious. I am pretty good at looking up, down, left and right all the time. Aware of my situation. |

Beware of the dip at the gutter upon entering or leaving a gas station.

With the trailer, I stop at the bigger fueling stations...QT, Sheetz,....I figure since there are so many pumps that there will always be one coming available for the single vehicle folks. I would like to think they would understand if you do take up multiple pumps. There are always other folks doing the same...landscaping trailers, horse trailers, car trailers. I have pulled into a station that was just way too crowded, then pulled right out to look for another station.
Right at $2 per gallon here.
