People have had their RVs stolen from their driveways by creeps who carry bolt cutters. Some people try to make their trailers less appealing to thieves by adding heavy duty hitch locks. Many styles are easily overcome by a thief if given the right opportunity. My sister-in-law moved her pop up camper to her front yard and put a for sale sign on it. The next morning it was missing from her yard. It had a good padlock on the hitch. She did not get nearly what it was worth from her insurance company.

+1 Purchased ours 4 years ago. Not cheap but I agree with GG - it is the best out there.

IMO, the best trailer tongue lock is the one made by Proven Industries.

I often put several drops of anti-seize into the lock mechanism of locks that live outdoors. Better locks made of stainless might not need it, but if there are any steel components inside, it will keep them moving smoothly. One word of caution, anti-seize contains graphite, and it will turn everything it touches black (but you can wipe it off). The nice thing about graphite is that it will stick once the liquid carrier evaporates.

I found the perfect solution. I had a couple of small round magnets that stick to the steel. Also sprayed the lock with some Blaster silicone lubricant and it works smoother.

I suppose, if you wanted to splurge, some combination of penny, nickle dime would get the very best snugness.. but who knows how much $$$ you might be out in the end... ![]() |

A penny or two or three might be cheaper!
Could also just put a slug from an electrical box in there too. Probably cheaper than a nickel. |
