Topic: Tail and Marker Lights Quit Working Posted: 13 Mar 2018 at 3:28pm |
I bet your trailer is wired like standard RV/Camper 7 pin, mine is. The other key is your yellow wire that is a single wire with butt connector, that's your reverse light from the TV. You don't have any reverse lights so it is just covered.

And oh, I believe my tail and running lights wires under the trailer are green (like mcarter said). When I tried to jump that connection it kept shorting and blowing the fuse. And luckily the first light I checked for a short was the one that had the short!!! Never happen again.....LOL

LOL, I found about 8 different ways a round 7 point connector can be wired and none of them are the way mine is wired. I really don't get it but with a multi meter I was able to figure out which pin did what.
I made a jumper, found the short this morning in the forward driver side fender marker light. I replaced the light, all is well now.
Thanks a BUNCH for everyone's concerns. I was going nuts yesterday afternoon over this, I guess a nights sleep helped me make sense of it.
And I drew a diagram of how the plug on my truck is wired, so if something happens again I will at least be that far ahead.

Check the fuses. We had it happen to us with the boat trailer. Last summer my son had it happen to one of the lawn service trailers in both cases it was the fuse.

Make sure you are looking at a RV standard 7 way. The colors could be different. If you are looking down the barrel of the trailer connector with the alignment lug on top. 12V is at 11 (black). Tail and running is at 1 (green). The center is reverse and is yellow, it is the single wire under the trailer with a butt connector on it. Left turn and stop is at 3 (red). Ground is at 5 (white). Brake is at 7 (purple). Right turn and stop 9 (brown).

+1 to Marwayne. I built a small jumper with a 15A inline fuse that I can use the 12V from the trailer battery to test the light and brake circuits on the trailer, that way I isolate away the TV. Only thing it doesn't do is turn signals because the flasher is in the TV.

Try this, if it works it is on the truck

You should check your Tow Vehicle fuses. My Honda Ridgeline has a fuse in the engine compartment for the tail and marker lights

From Etrailer, If you are looking at the inside of the trailer connector where the wires mount to the terminals starting at the notch at the top and working clockwise:
1:00 is Black and 12 volt power
3:00 is Green and Right Turn and Brake
5:00 is Blue and Brake Controller
7:00 is White and Ground
9:00 is Yellow and Left Turn and Brake
11:00 is Brown and Tail and Running Lights
Center is Purple and is Optional Reverse
The brown wire is the one that lights the tail and marker lights. On my trailer the molded 7 way trailer cable runs under the trailer near the front and attaches to the wires that are run inside the trailer. I would check the connections at that point first

HEP! Here on the southern slopes of the Arkansas Ozarks we don't ask for help, we ask for "hep".
And hopefully someone of you can hep me with a problem with my tail and marker lights.
What happened is they quit working. They worked last year when I bought it.
I have a 2014 178. It was new in 2017.
The brake lights and turn signal lights work. The trailer brakes work. The tail and marker lights do not.
I do not know if the problem is with the truck or the trailer, I do not have another truck to plug it into.
So the question is: Does anyone know the color of the wire that comes out of the harness and goes to the junction connections that lights the tail and marker lights? I think if I can identify this wire I can figure out where the problem is. I can jump 12v to that wire which should light up the tail and marker lights.
If I run a 12v jumper to individual wires at the junction under the front of the trailer I can get the Left and Right turn/brake lights to work. If I jump to either green junction I get a short. If I jump to the blue junction I get a short. The green junction is strange, it has many wires and jumps from one junction to another, thus connecting two connectors. There is a yellow wire out of the harness that is deadended.
So fellow Podders, any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.
