Topic: Decal Removal Project Posted: 03 Sep 2019 at 4:35pm |
I'm working at 90 degrees. The graphics are coming off easy and not so easy. I found the solid colors seem to have more adhesive and are harder to totally remove. Project continues Next step is the side decals that transition from green to gold. Best if some hardware is removed.

I use a hair dryer. I'm afraid the heat gun might get too hot.

That works too.. but if the decals are not to dried out and cracking apart, they will peel fine on a good warm day in the sun.

Started a decal removal project on my 2015 178 today. A number of the decals have aged to the point it's time to remove them. This is my first effort at a RV, but I have done numerous water crafts, vehicles and even an airplane. I do not use a complicated or expensive list of materials and supplies. I pick a warm day or number of warm days. Pod is outside and exposed to the sun. I have a razor blade scraper, an exacto knife, a couple of containers of charcoal lighter, a package of pads available from the dollar store (the ones that are two sided, with a scouring surface and a sponge, rags, and the always present LA Awesome (dollar store). If I have 10 bucks in materials, I would be surprised.
With the razor blade scrapper I lift the decal edge and peel off the surface. Where the decal, goes under seals, trim that with the exacto knife or a razor blade (lightly). I use the pad and charcoal lighter to loosen and remove the adhesive and residue from the decal. I use the LA Awesome full strength to clean the surface. It is impressive in what it will clean.
Next step will be to rub out surface for color match and then wax. You don't need warm weather for rub out and wax so I may do removal and then finish after Pod is away for season.
Project is started and not sure where I'll go, may apply a different custom graphics set or go with LostAgains Cloud look:)
