If the black material turns out to be a solvent based adhesive then a water based primer like Kilz 2 is advisable. If the black stain is water soluble than an oil based primer like original Kilz or Zinsser BIN just in the stained areas would be better (with loads of ventilation). Basically you want to use a stain blocking primer that won't dissolve the stain.

Thanks, I was thinking Kilz 2 also, very familiar with it as a home owner. Sure I will go that way, still baffled by what it is, sure heat is the culprit.

We have not painted in the Rpod. However, as retired General Contractors, we have a lot of experience painting lots of varied surfaces. After the area is properly cleaned and dry, we have found that a coat of Latex Kilz 2 will provide good adhesion and an excellent primer for most any surface. It will cover most stains in one coat and will not exhibit future bleed through. It is available in quarts and gallons at most big box stores and paint centers. Because it is latex, it is relatively low odor. Still, forced ventilation is important. Vann

The residue follows each of the cross beams in the ceiling from the first above the dinette to the 4th nearest the dinette overhead light. It is not in the open areas of the ceiling, straight line along supports. I have worked on it this summer and it is not mold. There has to be a adhesive that was used to hold the ceiling panel to the roof supports. It is also on the sun side of the Pod as it is presently parked. I haven't seen a video of the ceiling install, I have seen a video of the ceiling installed, insulation applied and a roof panel application. However the ceiling is already installed. More to follow.

When we picked up our 2019 179 in July 2018 the front and back ends of the ceiling (? or are they the walls) same material as the ceiling just a different color, a light brown and the ceiling was an off white. The first mod was to paint those light brown walls to an off white (a little creamier color than the ceiling). My wife just used a latex paint and used 2 coats. No special prep. There was no black residue bleeding into the areas. We have also painted all the walls and cabinetry in the slide out with the same paint with no special prepping the area. Have had no problems with the results except it makes the interior feel bigger.

Are you certain its not mold? In looking at the construction videos I'm not seeing anything obvious that would create a black residue. There is the lauan, the wood cross supports, spray adhesive, fiberglass insulation, and then the fiberglass roofing sheet. You might want to check the wood moisture content in that area relative to other areas where you're not seeing black stuff.
If its mold then you might want to try Concrobium fungicide to start. I haven't had to use it but it gets some good ratings. Try a hidden area first as always. Then you can go over with a good water based primer like Zinsser 123. I would be afraid to use an oil based primer in an enclosed space like an rPod unless the forced ventilation was really good.

Has any member painted there interior ceiling? If so how did you prep and any suggestions for type of paint. My ceiling at the forward 4 or 5 cross supports is bleeding a black residue that appears to be caused by heat on the exterior of the Pod. It does not clean well and reappears after a week or so. Appreciate comments.
