We just bought a 2000 F-150 with the Triton 5.4L V8, and love it. I'm jealous of your new truck, but will just have to be happy with what I've got because it makes towing so much easier than with a V6 engine. Enjoy your new ride! |

Nice truck. The new DOHC 5.0's are great engines. I traded in my 2003 cobra for a 2011 5.0GT and have been happy with the choice. I know your application is completely different, but I'm still very pleased with the engine in my mustang. I hear the Eco-boost V6 (ie, twin turbo direct injection V6) is also a towing monster.

I bought an F-150 Supercab in 2000 (4-door short bed) with the 5.0L engine and it was a great truck. I used to tow a good-sized Coleman pop-up camper with it, and barely knew it was there.
Good choice! |

Very interesting. I have yet to try E85 in my truck; it is hard to find around here. While I had heard about the reduced mpgs, it is good to hear some "real world" experience. Glad you like the new TV.

Well, the mpg numbers are in. On our weekend trip up to the hill country, we got 11.5 mpg; that was about what I was hoping for. On the way back, we decided to try a tank of E85 flex fuel as it was 33 cents a gallon cheaper. We were heading in a headwind, but the mileage was terrible and dropped to 6.5 mpg. After about a half a tank, I filled up with regular gasoline and the mileage went up to 7.5 mpg. Afterwards, I researched online at Edmunds.com and found out that their tests showed a 25% drop in mpg with flex fuel over regular gasoline, which negated any initial price savings. Looks like e85 flex fuel will be for emergencies only. Overall, very happy with the new TV.

That has been my personal experience, regarding the mpgs. It seems to be true regardless of the TV. The big difference in my case: 185HP, 4cyl, with 3.73 gears was turning 3200-3300RPMs and still not able to keep up - constanly wanting to downshift to 2nd gear and jump to over 4000RPMs. I could not use the TV's A/C, carried no fluids in the Pod, removed the tailgate from the truck and did not carry the spare tire to the Pod, to reduce weight. Now, all different. I can "loaf" along at 1700-1800RPMs (@65mph) and forget all of the above. There's still plenty of power to pass at will. Headwinds and hills are no longer "Maalox moments". I think you'll like it.

Thanks David, that's what we are counting on. Plus, I am hoping to get at least the same mpg towing as the Mitsubishi, 10-12 mpg.
