techntrek is on as usual. He has a good tip, run the a/c blower fan in the on position, then the compresor will cycle as needed and hopefully you can sleep through the white noise. so far this year with shady spots and the bath fan on low with windows cracked it got almost to cool, we had to shut the fan down and turn the little ceramic heater on low, I love the cool nights with the smell of the big pine woods.

Ditto, its been the topic of several long discussions. I've considered replacing mine with an ultra-quiet mini-split A/C, but it would require modifications and isn't cheap. In the mean time we leave the fan on all the time when the A/C is on so the cycling isn't as noticeable. It still wakes me occasionally when that big "thud" occurs.

yep noisy air, I have seen some people post about replacing their unit with quieter ones, our 2011 RP-172 is very noisy, it cools great, but noisy. I am just going to have to live with it. unles it gets to hot, we crack the windows about 1 inch and turn the bathroom blower on low and it produces a great cross breeze. We try to get shady spots when we can, but if you are stuck out in the middle of a field with sun, here comes the noisy a/c. Ear plugs anyone ?

We are still getting used to our R-pod. We have been using it for the past 20 days an finally got hot enough that we wanted the AC on this last weekend.
We were surprised at the amount of noise it generates. Especially the compressor: when it cuts in and cuts out. There is a noticeable thunk when it cuts load when it cuts in and even louder when it cuts out. The unit generates cool air just fine - no complaint. but the noise when the compressor cycles on and off makes me wonder if something is seriously wrong with it. What have been others' experiences with the A/C units - is this normal behavior? Other than that -we love the pod so far.
