I installed windows 8 on my computer and since then very little has worked properly. It lost files and totally destroyed Thunderbird and all my email accounts. Took me a week to get Firefox working again. I'm still having some of the problem mentioned in this thread. Turning off wysiwyg helped.

For whatever reason, my Windows 7 computer started going to the last unread post yesterday.  I changed nothing, but now it is doing what I wanted it to do.  Not complaining, just amazed at how littile I understand this stuff,,,

Ditto, I never think about that either.  I only use IE at work where I'm forced to - and since all of our intranet apps always get validated against the next version of IE before we get that next version we never worry about compatibility.  At home I use Opera.

Well ... just thought I would drop a note and say that the laptop is working like it should (going to the first unread post).... Racer|X| - you was right about the new IE10 not recognizing the older websites. It was a quick fix... went to "tools" drop down and clicked on "Compatibility View Settings" and added this website! Hope this helps anybody else that was having the same problems and THANKS for everyone's help!

I have the same problem on my home computer.  When I go online via IE then it doesn't recognize which posts I have already read, which ones I haven't, and it can't navigate to the right place in a string.  However, when I go online via Firefox (I have both on my computer) it does remember and recognize exactly where left off on every different topic posting string here.

So, I just come here via Firefox now.

It isn't necessarily WIN8 as much as it is IE10 (your internet Explorer) recognizing older websites, etc.

I'm running windows 8. I think that was what RACER X was referring to, or not?

EDIT:

Well, got off the phone with GEEK SQUAD support and they said the Windows 8 will do that! BUT.... they did say that there is a fix and should come in the next 30 days!
We will see!
Thanks everyone for the help into trying to figure this out!

I checked my settings and the WYSIWYG setting is off. Has been since I joined the forum! Sigh I'm still trying different things! I'm sure I will stumble on something to get it fixed! Thanks for the info!

I had the same results here at work (IE 8 on Win7) - when I clicked on New Posts, then clicked on the link for this thread, it left me at the top of the thread.

I've had odd issues with the text box for replies, various things at various times.  One thing you can try as a solution is to go into your user settings and turn off the "WYSIWYG" option for thread replies.  The plain text input mode takes away a lot of the glitches.
