Calendar Event: Trim sealant on Rpod Posted: 08 Sep 2013 at 12:57pm |
Camping World is always a good source. Here is a link to those on eBay. Some even show you how to measure for the correct width. Looks like it comes in 1/2, 3/4 ad 1" widths, with 1" being the most common. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=RV+vinyl+trim&_dcat=50069&Part%2520Type=Exterior&rt=nc

I was looking at it on the campers world website. It comes in various lengths, either 3/4 or 1 inch wide, and in various colors. If I recall right, a 100 foot length runs around $20. I'm going to check to see if I can get some under warranty, but again the whole job for around $20.

Squeeze it. If you buy the right width, it will fit tightly in the channel.

So to install, do you squeeze it into the channel as well, or slide it in from one of the ends?

Good point, Derek, one I forgot to mention. The vinyl strip will have a tendency to shift unless it is anchored at both ends. However, don't anchor it until it has had some time to acclimate. Chances are it will stretch in length a little when you insert it, so give it a little time to relax to its normal length. The first time I replaced a trim strip, I trimmed it to length right away. After a few days in the sun, it was a few inches too short. Allow a little extra length, and wait a few days before trimming.

Make sure you check the ends of the trim pieces as with mine it was tucked in underneath about an inch and had a screw in it. It was also sealed around the screw.

Thanks Sleepless. So even if not covered, a cheap fix. I'll call to check though.

I have replaced the trim on 2 or 3 trailers that I have owned through the years. Normally the vinyl will last for many years. Removal of the old and insertion of new is very simple. Just squeeze the sides together and it come right out of the channel. 1" is the most common size but it does come in at least one other width. Cost is around $8.00 to $10.00 per roll and a pod would probably take 2 rolls. I would think it would be covered under warranty.

The trim on mine is all cracked on both sides. I wonder if this would be covered under warranty; I have an extended plan but do not have any info on exactly what is covered.
