I'm curious.  What's the advantage of a programmable thermostat in the Pod?  I guess I can imagine a little advantage, maybe cool things down a bit at night, and warm them up just before you wake up in the morning, but is there anything else?  To me, that's about like having a remote control for a car radio. Cool, but almost no real value added.  (I adjust my pod's thermostat manually all the time.  I know what my environmental desires are at any giving moment, it's right there, and it's no trouble.  YMMV, of course.)

As far as starting and stopping the furnace, the furnace itself has a bit of a computer built in that cycles the gas, igniter, and fan.  I think the fan comes on just before the heat kicks on, and I know it stays on for about a minute after the flame goes out in order to cool down the innards of the furnace.  Don't know if that relates to the original poster's concerns.
