I have a 2003 Prerunner Taco and a 2010 171 Pod.  The Pod came with a cheap EZ friction sway bar which works well.  I noticed substantial sway one day but learned I needed to tighten up the sway bar a little more.  The truck came with a hitch receiver already which is not a Weight distribution type.   If I were starting over I would get a weight distribution hitch as the "porpoising".... if that is a word...is noticeable.  The friction bar is cheap and worth trying out if you already have a hitch. Will not help with the roller coaster feeling you get.

I'll echo GLBC.  I use a friction sway bar and pull with a Tacoma.  When I bought my pod the salesman had me sold on a WDH but the service manager said all I would need is the friction sway bar.  Four summers later and no problems or issues towing.  Of course, I've never towed with a WDH so I can't compare.  Good luck and have fun!

Welcome.  I used a 6000 pound E2 with my pod and it worked well.

The Andersen hitch looks pretty slick.  A little more money but I like the fact that it doesn't push the tongue up in rebound.

No reason at all. With the 178 spec'd at UVW=2554# plus ball park 1000# stuff, water, propane, batteries, etc you're still well within the 6000# E2. Stiffer bars just make the ride harsher and add damage potential if you find an extreme dip.

Is there any reason to get a E2 with a higher weight rating like 10,000 lb or is the 6,000 plenty ?

Just to be clear I draw a distinction between "need" a WDH and "want" a WDH. There are many setups where you might not need one for safety or rating reasons, but the WDH will always improve the ride and reduce driver fatigue. Unless of course you're towing your 172 with an F350 dually Wink

You will find many people here absolutely insist on needing a WDH. And I am sure they are the best way to go. But for many reasons, money actually being the least of which, I decided to just go with a friction sway bar for my taco and have been quite happy. I got the pro series from eTrailer for $37.95.

From personal experience with my Taco I recommend the E2 WDH from Progress Mfg. Co. and FastwaytTrailer.com. It combines weight distribution and sway control. Even on the Taco the weight distribution function greatly improves the ride, eliminating uncomfortable porpoising and bounce. Far better than friction sway control devices and no removal for backing up required.
