Topic: Installing 12 volt plug Posted: 10 May 2016 at 9:52am |
Thanks everybody, 12v plug installed and I'm set.
JandL, nice job on the new TV set up with sound bar. My early 2014 still has the small TV with very poor sound. I guess I know what my next project is going to be...

If you look at this mod you can see what the panel looks like and where I picked up 12 volts from. You will have to install a fuse in one of the 2 empty spaces.

Got it, thanks! I assumed something like that. I have a few items I want to use on battery power if possible, and I want to avoid inverters for the moment. Even one well located socket would be a huge help for the short term.

If you wire it "properly", i.e. into an empty power panel slot, the fuse and socket you use and will determine the maximum amperage draw. You should base the fuse amp rating on the socket amp rating unless you're wiring other things on the same circuit.
That said, anything that has a cigarette lighter plug and pulls fewer amps than the socket/fuse rating can be used.

Noob Question: how similar are the output specs I can expect, compared to a car battery? If I install a car lighter type socket, will it run anything that has a specific car adapter plug available?
I am the Mechanical Engineer who understands nothing electrical...yup, that guy...

Charlie, thanks so much.
Couldn't see the screws in the front as they were covered with white sticker description labels. Pulled the stickers aside and the screws were right there.
Much appreciated!

The power panel comes out from the front. several screws hold it in.

Having trouble taking the back cover off the electrical junction box to get to an empty 12v slot so I can install the hot wire for the plug. Taken the seat off and plywood cover (see photo) but the box almost seams sealed. There are only two screws on top which does not loosen the box. The photo is looking straight down onto the floor. Does the front panel snap off somehow and reveal screws? Did not want to break anything. What I'm I missing? Thanks,
