If you want to reduce the pump cycling you can install a tank in the pressurized system. However, then the pump will cycle continuously while it fills, with a long period in-between each cycle. You just trade off when and how the pump runs.

Just to be sure we understand you: You're saying that with the city water disconnected the pump cycles and water flows out the city water port? Not the tank fill port? If this is so it must be the check valve on the city water connection port is bad. You might try removing the screen and operating the valve by hand while spraying water into it. A bit tricky, but maybe there is some crud stuck in the valve. If that doesn't work the valve will have to be replaced.

I checked and the debris screen is as it should be. I guess I am looking for the .01% in terms of solutions. Thanks for the info, FurPod.

The pump will run near continuous when water is being used. If it running any other time, it's leaking somewhere. If you have water coming out of the city water hookup.. well.. "there's your problem"
The 99.99% answer is that the one way valve in the city water inlet is stuck, and the 99.99% answer for "why" is that the debris screen is mounted backwards after winterizing. The "cone" of the screen should point OUT, not in. |

I am having water pressure problems when using the pump rather than "city" water connection. The pressure keeps dropping so that the pump kicks in very frequently. I also noticed that water was escaping through the city water connection with the sound of air being released as well. Is there a back valve or such that could be involved? Perhaps something that has to do with too much city water pressure? If so, what part needs replacing and where do I find that part? Thanks in advance/
