Now I long for a SeeLevel! But actually until that happens, we will follow advice given here. Thanks everyone!

$185 for a three tank system at RVUpgrades. https://www.rvupgradestore.com/Garnett-Technologies-Model-709-SeeLeveL-II-p/709-1003.htm Also available from Amazon. It works VERY well as several of us Campliters have found. |

When filling before going out, we don't always fill the tank, weekend trips we may put in 15 gallons, for week long trips or longer, we fill it up. To measure what we put in I took a 5 gallon pail and timed how long it took to fill. In my case it took 40 seconds so if I want 15 gallons, it takes 2 minutes. As you get used to water usage you will have a pretty good idea how much you have left because as the above posters noted, the gauge is not always that accurate.

I was looking at the SeeLevel system. It looks quite impressive. What is the price for a SeeLevel system? |

If you fill until it overflows you will know it's full. Then, unless you replace the OEM 4 light non-gauge with something like a SeeLevel monitor (highly recommended), you just have to guess how much is left.

When I fill, I listen for the change in pitch as the water gets to the filler neck. Since i have a valve at the end of the hose (Camco 40003), I can usually catch it and shut it off just before it starts overflowing. You may also see it at your local Walmart, Camping World, Home Depot, or other places that carry RV equipment. Another tool that is handy is the one to flush out the hot water heater. It is helpful to get the sediment out of the hot water tank when the anode rod is removed for inspection or winterizing.

Unless you installed your own gauge of some sort, then it's not really feasible to measure how much fresh water is in your tank. And yes, filling the tank until it overflows is the standard operating procedure.

The gauge lights are notoriously inaccurate -- at least they seem to work better for some than for others. When filling, I use the go until it overflows method.

Aside from the monitor, how can we measure how many gallons are in the fresh water tank? Do we just let it overflow to know it's full? Measure gallons per minute? Thanks.
