Load Range C - 50 psi
Load Range D - 65 psi
Load Range E - 80 psi

I don't think 65 psi will cause the rims to fail. I would not try 80 psi though.

According to the Trailer Tire Facts and Information page of Discount Tire, the leading cause of tire failure is underinflation.  The page also says that the combined capacity of the tires should exceed the load by 20%. That would be a minimum. I prefer a little more reserve capacity. The load range D tires should provide it.

SmileOver pressure can cause wheel failure. I run LT 235-80 17s on my wrangler and do not use a wdh.

What is the brand of the tire that is currently on the R-Pod? Have you searched for that brand of tire so see if it comes in a load range D also?

I just replaced the tires on my 2016 R-Pod 179 with load range D Carlisle tires from Discount Tire for the same reason you want to replace yours. In particular, there was significant wear on the outer edges of the tires. They were inflated properly, so the trailer was too close to the top end of the load range for the tires. The stiffer side-walls and higher pressure of 65 psi vice 50 psi should help.

Good morning.  We just purchased a 2015 R Pod 178 Hood River Edition.  That means the tires are the knobby 235/75R15.  The tires have really bad wear patterns on the tread which concerns me.  I am thinking of replacing them.  My problem is I can't find a trailer tire that is a 235/75R15.  The closest I can get is a 225/75R15 in a trailer tire.  What are folks doing for tire replacements for the Hood River editions?

I was told that you want an 8 ply or 10 ply tire because the sidewalls are stronger and less likely to puncture if you are on dirt or back roads.  I have found Greenball trailer tires at Sams that are reasonable in price and come in 225/75R15 in both load level D and E.

Looking for advice.

David.  I'm with you.  You got a expensive trailer behind you and putting on cheap tires, doesn't make sense to me.  I have always spent extra on all the cars I have ever purchased and replaced to original tires with Michelin tires.  Not cheap, but what is your life worth?  I have always lived by the motto, "You get what you pay for."  No regrets in all my years.  Save Travels.

BTW, I put a new set of D-rated radial tires on my camper before our trip last summer.  Over 8000 miles w/o any odd tread wear.  Brand is Duraturn.

I bought the same tire in the "C" load range this Spring, from Discount tire. So far, so good. My neighbor spoke well of Carlisle. He is a pretty sharp guy and has experience with the brand. Note that I have 4 tires (tandem axle) so I am WELL within the specifications. Even at maximum loading, I am only at about 60% of their rating. I do recommend getting them balanced - for the same reasons we get the tires on our TVs balanced.

Yes, the Carlisle tires were not inexpensive but, I would rather not have to change (flat) tires on the side on the interstate highway.   I didn't mind spending a little more.

+1 on what Camper Bob said.  If the sidewall rating of the tire says 80 psi, it isn't going to blow when they are inflated to 80 psi.
