Didn't have one on our pod for the 5 years we had it, and it was fine.  Tree sap was a problem scrubbing off in the spring, but doable.

Podderfj,

There is a very good discussion on covers on the forum, I had same experience as you, my Classic cover fell apart.  I do NOT recommend a tarp.  My plan is to look at the Classis covers, buy highest quality and KEEP the receipt.

i am signing on my brand new 2017 blue edition 172 tomorrow, saturday the 5th. I asked the dealer if i should tarp it, or purchase a cover, or what. They said definately NO on the tarp. It will not breathe, and condensation will be a problem. So i said i guess i'll have to pay for a cover i guess. They said they dont think its needed, they dont cover their trailers on the lot,  and i am garaging it there also, so im going without a cover .

My brother did that with his Trailer (not a pod) and was sorry he did so.  Any place that was loose, the tarp rubbed back and forth all winter long.  Result, paint worn down to the primer, decals were rubbed off.  After that he purchased one that fit, no problems since then.  We are fortunate in that now that we don't have horses any more, we use the horse barn to store our pod during the hibernation months here in northern Michigan.

Fellow Podders:  I have a 2010 172.  I bought a custom fit cover for it from an internet site.  It was a Classic Custom cover.  I have had the cover since March.  We recently took a camping trip and when we got back home and tried to put the cover on the Pod, it just basically fell apart.  You could tear it like newspaper.  Very frustrating.  Needless to say, I did not keep the receipt or any other proof of purchase.
My question, do any of you use a large tarp to cover your Pod?  Harbor freight has some heavy duty tarps that I think will work.  I would like to have a carport type cover installed, only larger, but just don't have the money right now.  That is the long range plan if we really continue to enjoy camping.  I really love the Pod.  Any of the Podders that cover your Pod, please chime in and give me some advice.  Thanks for reading my post.
