Was leaving one campsite for another today on the winter escape trip in Florida and while draining the black tank, notices a bit of movement in the exhaust when pulling the black-tank valve. Took a closer look and the nut that was holding the entire exhaust onto the Frame was just about to come off. Obviously I tightened it back down and will plan to do some reinforcement in the near future, but just something to be aware of and double check if you aren't in the habit. Very close call. ~PP

John, any pictures of the area where the black tank loose nut was located?  Same type of setup on the gray tank exhaust?
Thanks

I’ll try to get some pictures or a short video up shortly, possibly by tomorrow night

Hey John,

On another post on here, I posted I added a second bracket to the black tank drain, 3" from Lowes. At the time there was a rash of black tank bracket failures leading to damaged black tank hardware. I have not seen anything on similar problem with grey tank.

Mike, after this close call, I’ll be doing similarly soon. There were lots of bumps in the 1,200 + miles put on getting down here. I think I’ll still check this when torquing the lug nuts or after long trips.

After reading about some of the tanks falling down in past posts, we check the tank bolts each spring as part of our prep to start the camping season.
Glad to hear you caught yours before any damage was done.

Link to your post, do you have a photo in it showing the bracket you used or post a link?

I have seen some people wrap an flexible metal pipe strap around it for added protection. Part of the problem with failures is I from using self tapping screws to hold the drain valves and outlet. If the factor installer torques those screws to tight they can and will strip out.

Hint always carry a few different size self tapping screws.

+1 to issue with self tapping screws. Very simply bought an additional 3" pipe hanger from Lowes and added it to frame, my original hanger was not damaged or lose, but I now have two hangers.
