Topic: Looking at an RPOD...new owner Posted: 17 Mar 2018 at 7:49pm |
My 2 cents, Being a contractor who builds very expensive things, at first I was disappointed with the finishing details and some sloppy craftsmanship. (this was my 1st TT), But as I used it and looked at the other clones in this price range and other TT's, I realized that the things that bothered me were not such a big deal. I went through the pod and made some adjustments here and there, and vacuumed out some sawdust (everywhere). I have not had any issues that made me regret buying the pod, I have since modified almost everything about it and have fixed the things that broke (I broke). It's price is perfect for what you get, It is not a Mercedes, But then I didn't pay for one. I would Highly recommend a real good inspection when you buy it, Just as you would a home. rgds John

We bought our 2017 used. We have a 28' TT and I wanted something smaller to get into smaller places and be able to pull with out Jeep. The pod is our 3rd TT. I've been completely through it doing modifications and additional wiring. I What I found was that the fit and finish was good. The materials were typical light-weight to reduce weight. There was sawdust in the hidden areas, but then I've always found sawdust in hidden areas, that's what they make vacuum cleaners for. I believe that it is probably about the middle average for quality. For value, I can't say since we got a really good deal on ours while on vacation in Florida at a dealer that didn't sell them and wanted to get rid of it badly. Would I but another one.....absolutely.

2012 rpod owner here. Went from a tent to our brand new 2012 177 6 years ago. For the price, good trailer so far no major problems and what problems I had were fixed with no troubles under warranty. BUT... it is your dealer who makes or breaks your experience with the pod. Find others who have bought from your dealer and see what they say. Good luck.

You mentioned two trailers that were on my list. Casita and Oliver.
Casita is a good trailer. Really like the construction but the layout just didn't work for me. Re-sale value wasn't as good as I wished. That's your choice if it does for you.
Oliver is still on my list! I don't wish to be 'land-based', wife does.. I'm still hoping for my time after she gets her's. Big price tag on the Oliver, but an amazing re-sale value! Very nice trailer! If we stay 'land-based', I do see one in our future.
R-Pod: decent re-sale value. What is great is the followers and assistance within. Buy in is very good. I felt Best Buy for the dollar. Search around a bit, I bought new because I just couldn't find a better price for what I have.
I bought the 182g. I found nothing else out there, at the price range, that worked so well for our needs and wants in a trailer.
MHO.

Also keep in mind that the trailer is built to be lightweight at an entry level price point and it bounces down the highway behind you - so yes - there can be some issues. But even if you have an issue with your Pod there is this forum and in my time here I haven't seen an issue yet that somebody hasn't been able to fix! Also this past summer we had "camping neighbours" in units that were far more expensive than ours and guess what - they have issues as well. As one neighbour put it - get an RV and learn to be handy! We have not regretted going with our RPod - the praises have already been sung here so I won't repeat them.

I've had a few different travel trailers in my day and I must say, the Rpod is hands down my favorite so far (I bought it in mid-2016). With any travel trailer in this price range, there will always be little things you or your dealer will need to address but living in mine essentially full time, I have found them to be very minimal for the most part, especially when comparing to trailers I've owned in the past.

True that... or going to a Ford forum and dissing Chevies or GMCs or vice versa. But as was mentioned earlier; for every complaint you see, you can usually multiply by 10 for the ones that are happy. I might argue that the ratio is much higher. The point being is that satisfied customers rarely go online anywhere to proclaim how happy they are. Squeaky wheels and all that.

Under the Cassita camper forum, there was an RPod listing with a group of grumbling owners...

Always keep in mind.. for some owners.. "I found a loose screw/dropped screw in this closed compartment, the Pod is crap" and for others... "Another trip, the roof didn't blow off and I was dry in the rain, the Pod is fantastic".
The truth is, you ARE buying the, or nearly the, (I don't keep up with the clones pricing) least expensive, fully featured, TT in it's class. If you expect Airstream, Lance, Arctic Fox, Oliver, etc quality for R-Pod money, you WILL be disappointed.
Most pods are trouble free. Ours was. I have been active in the community since '09, when we saw our first Pod. On here since the day after we bought our Pod. That said, yes just like anything, Pods can have problems, both construction and actual issues, and they can have user issues.. just like anything else, Even Rolls Royce has a warranty department..
I for one, would be interested to know which sites you see these bad reviews on..
