Topic: A/C - no air filter? Posted: 03 Aug 2010 at 9:37pm |
The A/C on our popup had an air cleaner inside. Once a season I took the plastic cover off and cleaned the filters. So, I figured I should take a look at the 'pod's A/C last week since we've almost had it a year (where did a year go?). Eight screws later I had the cover off. No air filter. Anyone else looked under the cover? Any filter on anybody else's? |

I looked it up in the manual - Page 15
Air Filters: Periodically remove the return air filters located in the front end of the air box. Wash the filters with soap and warm water, let dry and reinstall. I have 2 one on each side of the front that slip out, but have had the trailer for over 1 1/2 years and have yet to use the A/C. Would have loved too a few times but dry camping does not allow that. Maybe one day a generator will be coming my way |

Hmm, sounds like I need to pop the cover off during our next trip and look again. They certainly weren't obvious and I poked around. I wonder if they weren't installed. If anybody happens to get their cover off to clean them in the near future, and can snap a picture that would be helpful.
You could try what I'm planning on doing eventually, high-output alternator with a large inverter. I posted about this a month or two ago. I want the option to pull into a Walmart parking lot for lunch or overnight and not roast on a 95 degree day (plus run my electric chainsaw away from my house).

This sounds odd unless you have a different AC. On ours a 2009 171 the filters slide out without removing the cover. They are plastic and washable, and if I remember correctly extra filters came with it in the bundle of papers and manuals. David and Danette

The two filters on my 2009's A/C are a flimsy, rinky-dink affair: a thin plastic frame with a fabric screen. They're about 4" wide, 9" long and 3/8" thick and are accessed with the A/C cover on. They're at the front of the unit, on either side, next to the ceiling.

I remember seeing two slots that would fit with that description, I bet that's where the filters are supposed to be. Now I need to find my "bundle" and see if they gave me any.

Doug, when I got my 171 from Stoltzfus the filters were sitting in a bag with some of the other paperwork. Then I had to ask for the rest of the paperwork.

Guess what I just found? Ya'll were right, they were inside my pack-o-papers. When I read through the stack last year I guess I figured they were spares. They'll be in place for the next trip!

Yeah I thought the same thing when I saw the 2 filters in my package (that they were spares), but l when I went out to get the serial number for air conditioner to write down in the book I noticed the filters weren't installed, which I thought was very odd.

How insteresting...I guess it depends on your dealer and who preps your R-pod. My filters were in place, it was vaccum. fridge was cold, battery charge and the tech walked me though everything and even set up the r-dome half way so I could get idea on how it worked.
