Topic: Bathroom converted to living room Posted: 15 Sep 2018 at 9:48pm |
Hello Rpod Owners,
Has anyone ever converted their bathroom to a living room-type set up? i have a 2016 180, and really feel like having an on-board bathroom is not all that necessary, so i've been toying with the idea of removing the toilet, sink and shower, knocking out the wall, and converting that little area into a 'living room' of sorts. Has anyone ever done such a thing?
When i think back to the campers my parents had when i was a kid, we - a family of 5, managed just fine w/o the conveniences of those kind of bathroom amenities. And even when my parents bought their last travel trailer in the late '70's, and it came with a bathroom, they never used it!
It seems to me like it could be a better use of space to turn it into living space.
Thoughts?

Well dont look to me - at 63 years old when I need to pee at 2 am I am very appreciative of having a phone booth-sized bathroom in my 179. More valuable to me than more living space.

Of course it is your trailer and you can do anything you want with it. Be aware that removing the bathroom willmake it difficult to sell. In fact it will sharply devalue the unit.

I own a TT for two reasons, a place for me to use the bathroom and shower at my convenience and that I know is up to my standard of cleanliness, and air conditioned place to sleep.
It's your camper, do as you will, but I agree it will sharply effect the value and market if you wish to ever sell it.

After reading this post all I keep on asking myself is WHY? Why would you want to devalue your camper by doing something like removing the bathroom? Sure its your camper to do what ever you want so if you want to destroy its value get out the pry bar, screw gun, and wrenches and go at it! Maybe what you should do instead is sell your camper and go by a teardrop camper, that has no bathroom, just a suggestion.

I agree, it's your camper, your call. I wouldn't, but to each their own!

One last thing; be careful before knocking out the wall. Not sure of the 180 but my 179 has lots of wiring and stuff in that wall. May be more hassle than it is worth.

Very good point, with especially the wall between the bathroom and the kitchen slide out you'd be looking at doing allot of rewiring. Which is another reason why the OP should just sell and buy something much more simple IMHO.
