Topic: City Water Check Valve Posted: 19 Jun 2020 at 3:54pm |
When I hooked up to city water, my fresh water tank filled up. FR said I had a bad check valve and needed to replace the city water inlet (?). Where is that check valve? I asked for a flow/valve diagram, but got nothing. Would leaving the center water heater by-pass valve open fill the fresh water tank?

Wrong answer. The check valve for the pump is stuck. Disconnect city water and cycle the pump several times. Then check to see if that got the blockage out of the pump's check valve. This may need to be repeated. I have not had this happen, but have read this solution a number of times on this forum.

I went thru about a year of this issue. The water pump check would stick and the fresh water tank would fill. I used the recycle repair method numerous times and it would correct for use on that trip. I knew I could buy a rebuild kit, but I went ahead and bought a newer model water pump and replaced my old pump. Never had a problem since. SH is right it is the fresh water pump that is the issue.

Did you replace the pump in kind, or upgrade? To what? Is the check valve made into the pump? Mine is noisier than I wish it were, and right under the bed. Did you consider installing an expansion tank to even out pressures?

The pump I put in was same configuration as original, but a newer model. I bought it from Camping World and I believe it was a Revolution. It is much quieter than original pump. The check valves are in fact internal to the pump. I never installed an expansion tank, I have nothing against them, I regulate my water input pressure, I'm ok with that. I have a 178, the pump is in the very bottom compartment under the sink in the slide. BTW the replacement pump was around 100 bucks and physically looked more dependable than the FR OEM pump.

I replaced a Shurflo 4008 with a Revolution Shurflo. That was in 2017, I made a post at the time. It was on sale for 44% off, and I may have bought from Amazon.

I shut off the pump at night so it doesn't run under our heads in the 179. An expansion tank would only lengthen the pump cycle time, it wouldn't make the pump any quieter during operation. But an expansion tank would provide pressure for a longer period with the pump off, that might be useful at night.

In our 179, we turned around so our heads are toward the door side. That way, the pump is under our feet, not our heads. The wardrobe wall also helps block some of the light and also some of the sound from the AC. I did not come up with the idea, but when I heard about it, tried it and it worked out well. Plus, it is easier to climb over my wife's feet and legs than if we were facing the slide-out side and I would have to go over the middle.
