I have recently removed a Dometic A/C unit from my 2016 RPod 178.

See: http://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=13911

It's  a model 641915, A/C only (separate heat) and fits in a 14.5" x 14.5" hole.  I replaced it with a manual skylight/vent.

It's in great shaped. Started once on 20 amp shore power just to see if it worked. It did. Otherwise, never used.

It's heavy, so shipping would be problematic.  However, I am planning a trip south from MT through ID/UT/NV/AZ next month.  So, if you are interested, DM me.  Shipping would be free in the bed of my truck.  I can take pics and discuss, if you are interested.  This would be a good replacement for a well-used one.

Hi podpal,

I have a 2015 178 which we don't use the A/C and would prefer to replace with a skylight.  Do you have any pics of what you did?  what type of skylight did you buy? what size hole is up there - 14''x14''?

Did you have any luck selling your A/C?

Arrives in Arizona and wishes that they had A/C.

I won't be staying. I prefer winter in Montana.

I bought this.  It dropped right in.  14.5 x 14.5.

We special ordered our 177 from the factory without A/C.  So much brighter inside without it!  And here we are 9+ years and 34,000+ miles later - no regrets.

lol...the folks in Montana and Michigan can kinda do without A/C....I guess....or at least I've heard rumors of such falderal.....

Down here below the 35th parallel, we do like our sleeping quarters mechanically cooled to below 90 degrees in the summer. Kinda helps get more restful sleep...dontcha know...

How do you sleep with a "jet engine" running in your Pod?  Ours was so noisy that we had difficulty talking let alone sleeping.  And that when it was brand new.

I put in one of these and all is well:

I dont try to sleep with the roof unit running in the r-pod...haven't needed to...I'm just saying I like to cool the camper down from the 90's or about that, to the low 70's or so.....I can normally turn off the A/C before I hit the hay....I only run it for about 20 minutes or so right after the sun goes down...or later in the evening if that suits my 'turn-in' time...

Others, those who might camp farther south of places where I camp, might need to sleep under the unit while it runs...dunno...but I'm pretty sure that most owners that live or camp this far south (in warmer months) dont rip out the vital life support unit up there on the roof!

Texas can be low enough in humidity to make that practical. OTOH, other places with high humidity need the nighttime AC. In that case, having the fan run on low constantly makes it easier to take. It becomes a background noise and is good for covering extraneous outside noise if you are not out somewhere isolated from traffic. As for hearing the television, I connected the sound output of the television to the auxiliary input of the stereo so the sound would play through there. It is much easier to hear and overall, the sound is much better than when using the tiny speakers in the television.
