Topic: Oven replacement Posted: 06 Mar 2021 at 8:52am |
Hi folks! Has anyone replaced their oven / microwave? I'm interested in getting a good oven on a budget. Mine quit getting above 260 degrees when set to 390. Any input appreciated.

I guess this must be a unique experience. I will have to go with online reviews. Wish me luck!

Hi there, replies and suggestions are usually quick to come here so I suspect you're right, no one has done this (I haven't). I am wishing you luck, please come back and post what you do.

Ours was replaced twice, but not by me. The first was when it wasn't working right within the 1 year warranty period. The second was when it went to the factory and they said that it did not pass an electrical systems test. Since then, it has been working well, so I do not know what went wrong. I had not heard of that problem, so it is likely somewhat unique. It should not be hard to replace the convection-microwave though. It should be fairly easy once you remove the trim ring.

You need to limit your options to an RV rated convection/microwave because they have a front or faceplace vent system: there is usually a metal duct that actually directs hot moist air out thru the trim plate or the front of the unit.
You could use an off-the-shelf household unit, but you would need to fabricate a vent system as well as a mounting system. I simply removed mine permanently and that space is now much needed additional storage. I lined the interior of that space with some paneling I had on hand and added 2 USB ports and an LED light. Very handy! Not to mention I got rid of a 47 pound oven that was almost useless when boondocking. Freeing up 47 pounds of deadweight means I can carry lots of additional food and water and cooking utensils.

On the internet, there is a site RecPro, they sell parts, to include micros to restore/repair RVs.

Thanks. I had not heard of that site. The convection-microwave they sell is a HighPointe which is what came with our RPod. You can see the difference between the convection-microwave and the microwave there by looking at the two models. The Convection-Microwave has additional ductwork.

We have the HighPoine convection/microwave......if you run the microwave for a long period (10 min) it has a thermal protection shut down and you have to wait about 10 minutes for it to reset. Really annoying.

Wow, that is a lot of weight. When we ordered our 177 back in January 2011 we ordered it without the oven (47 lbs) no A/C (around 100 lbs) and no entertainment system (guessing 35-40 lbs?) and since then no regrets. No wonder ours feels like flying sometimes

I stayed at a campground a couple years back, and a guy with a motorhome replaced all the furniture in his RV from RecPro, remodeled the whole thing.
