Topic: Extended Warranty? Posted: 05 Aug 2013 at 10:02pm |
I just had warranty repairs that would have cost over $1200 on my 2012 model 177. Luckily, when I bought my trailer the dealer included an extended warranty covering the trailer for an additional year over the Forest River warranty. I'm wondering how many of you carry extended warranties. I've never been a fan of them on other consumer goods but this is the first RV I've owned. I would have been bummed to pay for this repair on my 1.5 year old rig.
What say you? Extended maintenance warranties or no?

Nope, they are not for us. We always try to do our homework and make sure we buy quality products, and I trust in my negotiating skills should an issue ever arise after the "standard" warranty has expired. Never had a problem with any of our major purchases, and it would have cost me a lot of $$ over the years if I had bought the extended warranties on everything that they were offered on.

We paid the 150 for the extended warranty. The 178 is still a fairly new model for FR and it was worth the expense, in our minds, given that bugs tend to show up after a while.

We purchased an extended warranty in 2001 when we bought a new motor home with multiple slides and loaded with state-0f-the-art features. Otherwise, we have never purchased one for new cars, travel trailers, appliances, etc.

I don't usually buy them - if a multi-million dollar company can make that bet, I can too. However, I paid the $150 for the pod's extended warranty. Too cheap not to do it IMO.

I have had,and used the Good Sam extended warranty on a few of my rigs. They will let you start them at almost any time. You can take your unit any place that fixes rigs and they only have to get approval before they start the work. You pay a year at a time and they will set up a payment schedule. Allen

I normally do not buy extended warranties. I did buy what I thought was a reasonable 3 year warranty on the 3 way fridge, as it is expensive to replace. the rest I will fix it myself.

If there is a $150 extended warranty available, my dealer didn't let me know. Is that directly from the manufacturer? The only extended warranties they talked about were for 3 and 5 years, and they were several hundred dollars. I would go for a 2nd year at $150. I think one year is too skimpy.
