Topic: 182 R Pod Question Posted: 21 Aug 2013 at 1:23pm |
HI Podders: WE have been reviewing the liturature and have not been able to answer a question. Also, there are no 182's at Dealers w/i 100 miles of where we live so here is our question. Does the Queen Bed lift up for storage; or is the only storage in the small space under it from the floor level? Thanks much

I have a 177, and what you see from the inside is it. The remainder is the storage area from the two access compartments on the outside rear of the pod (storage from the outside, hope that makes sense). Also on the 177, under the mattress, you can remove part of the plywood to have easier access to your hot water heater and valves.

Just some other info regarding storage under the queen bed. The heater is under there as well, so I guess I wouldn't consider it "permanent" storage, as when I use the heater, I remove my totes from under there. I wouldn't say that area gets extremely hot, but personally I wouldn't want to chance it. I have very few complaints about my pod, but inside storage would probably be one. Alot of podders do mods to increase storage; ie: a shelf above the queen bed

The water heater is on the right hand side of the bed. If memory serves the vent for tne heater is there on that side as well. We use a small ceramic heater when it's cold out...it tends to be quieter and doesnt effect the things that we put under the bed. On our 177 there is also storage under the seat just as you enter, I'd guess that the 178 would be the same.

The under seat storage on the 178 will be limited, if not eliminated, by virtue of the outside access cargo door. (A feature that I would gladly have on our 177!) There may be some remaining space available since the dinette is extended by a foot or so. If the circuit breaker panel is in the same general vicinity, there is probably some storage that can be re-claimed under the back wall settee.
178 owners, feel free to correct my assumptions!

The 178 has good storage under the seats around the table. We keep kitchen supplies there. The position of the heater under the bed has been well described....room for totes and duffel bags. These pods don't have a ton of storage space but between the exterior ports and the under bed/table seats, there has been plenty for us.

Our 181g bed lifts up completely and gives us access to an entire storage cubby in the middle. One side gives access to the outside storage and the other side is the water heater.
Lot of storage in a 181g.
