Some jurisdictions have banned the movement of wood from outside of the area, due to various pests causing widespread damage.  By eliminating the movement of wood, the spread of the pests are (hopefully) slowed down.  Some times this means no fire, if you can't get local wood.  Also there are times that you can not have a wood fire due to burn bans, usually during severe droughts.  There are times that we get back to camp too late to get a good fire going, or its raining and we are stuck under the EZ-Up or the 'pods canopy.

Our solution: the Camp Chef camp fire ring.  Ours is a few years older than this and sits on top of a Camp Chef high-output burner, and doesn't have the lava rock (just ceramic "logs").  The newer one seems to be nicer - as long as you don't need the burner to cook on.

That fire ring is too cool!  Now I want one.  My "wish list" of stuff for my new pod is growing - and I don't even have the unit yet!  Sigh.
Happy tails and trails!

I bought a Campfire-in-a-can three years ago and use it all the time ('specially when I'm camping by my self). Sometimes, we just want a fire for an hour or so before hitting the sack and the propane fire pit makes it easy.

I updated the link in the original post.  Their line of propane fire rings is a bit different than a few years ago.
