As for battery maintenance, what you read in the "manual" thread is what you need to do.  Lead acid batteries must stay charged or they will be damaged.  Just sitting there they slowly lose their charge so if you stick it on the shelf and walk away for 6 months it will be damaged.  Do that twice and it will be dead.

I suggest you get something called a Kill-A-Watt.  You can first use it around the house to see how much power your stuff uses - like your hair dryer.  You might find some things use more power than they should - often a fridge more than 10 years old is a great first test.  Then you can plug it into a visible outlet in the pod to keep an eye on the campground's voltage while you are in-camp.  In my 171 it's plugged into an outlet I see every time I enter so I see it often.  If the voltage goes below 110 volts (or above 130) you need to disconnect your pod to prevent damage to the A/C and possibly other components.  It should normally be around 120.

Congrats on your 178 purchase!  I like that one a lot.

Thank you, techntrek!  I'll look for the Kill-A-Watt.  And thanks for the info. on the batteries.  I'll read through the "manual" thread carefully.  So much to learn!

I see an awning installed over the slide-out on some models.  Does anyone know where I can get one of those?  Are they included on any of the models?

Also, are there any Internet sites you'd recommend for finding camping site by services offered?  I'm picturing some kind of search-narrowing feature that you can select or deselect amenities...?  Maybe I need to create one!

The slideout awning does not come standard, and is not "reccommended" by FR. I have one. It's all in how you mount it.

not sure what you mean by sites by services offered.. we pick a area we want to go to, google for campgrounds in the area, pick and choose. As far as I have ever run into, the campground site will tell you if a site has elec, elec + water, full hookups.. cable etc.

Usually the state park reservation systems will give you the details on each park, and then on each site.

One last question?  (well, who am I kidding?  I'm sure I'll have more!)  I'm assuming I will need to winterize my pod before the first night that falls below freezing, is that correct?  Fall is a wonderful time to be outdoors, and it would be great to get around to some of the parks around Utah.  Although the days can be beautiful in the 50's and 60's, the nights can get below freezing.  What's the recommendation on when to winterize?

Sheesh.  Couldn't even go 5 minutes before asking another question!  Am looking at brake controllers for my TV.  What does the group think of the Prodigy 2?  My installer is "old school" and likes the control he has with other models.  He says he doesn't want to trust some engineer that did the settings sitting in an office a thousand miles away.  But for me, I'm sure that engineer is smarter than I am when it comes to trailer braking!  Just wondered what most of you had on your TVs...?

I would recommend the Prodigy P3. All digital menu driven. I started with the prodigy voyager and didn't like it. Wife convinced me to install the P3 and I love it. Easy to mount, adjust, and monitor operation. No leveling. Works great. Be sure and order the adapter harness for your vehicle.

We have the P2, it does what it's supposed to do and does it reliably for 3 years now.  Dunno what more could be said about it.  Easy, simple. works!

Winterizing.....meh, until it falls below freezing and stays that cold for a few days consecutively I wouldn't rush into winterizing.
