Topic: rdome lack of sunblocking Posted: 24 Feb 2014 at 8:03am |
I've read a couple posts regarding the rdome and it's lack of uv/radiant heat block. We went to Lowes and bought this..http://m.lowes.com/product?langId=-1&storeId=10702&catalogId=10051&productId=3011906&store=0768&view=detail&nValue=SEARCH
we hotglued the seams together and then taped over the top and bottom seam to keep it from separating. We'll use it like a blanket with binder clips to keep it in place.
Quick, easy and cheap to keep the four days of hot sun in MI, well hopefully four days, off of us and the kids.

To clarify, a blanket over the top of the rdome. Very light and can be folded/rolled up easily for storage.

I can't get anything to come up with that link. Is it something like this?

Thia is the link. It's refective insulation. Same silver lining as the link you posted, but not a blanket. Much lighter and thinner.

Used our dome for a month in the Sonoran Desert during Sept. and Oct. when temps were still in the 100's and upper 90's all day long, it did a great job of keeping us cooler and out of the sun as it was our only shade. I didn't think a secondary solar shield was needed, besides the fact that it is an extra step to set up and take down when you leave or the wind gets to strong. Goose

We used it for a day in July in MI and it sucked. Sun was right above us and just cooked us. The flaps were up, but there wasn't a great breeze.
Like I said, I read a few threads were people complained about the rdome not blocking the sun. It really doesn't block it or provide protection. This is simply a suggestion for how to fix that.

I agree - without a reflective roof we've been baked, too.
Ah, ok, the link worked from home. Reflectix is the most well-known radiant barrier. Two types - the bubble wrap type and the nylon thread type. I used the later in the windows of our popup and on the roof of the slide-outs. Worked great, but warning as it rubs in the wind the silver transfers very easily.
