Calendar Event: Water heater on electricity Posted: 29 Apr 2015 at 2:16pm |
Hi.
Our water heater isn't heating very much when on electricity ( yes we turned on the electric switch on the heater unit. :-))
Works ok on Gas.
We have an rpod179. And this is our first trip out this season.
We've tried the reset button.
Amy suggestions would be appreciated.

If it's not heating, but you have HOT water on gas, it's a good chance your heating element is bad/damaged. Easy to do if the electric side is turned on when there is no water in the tank.

Is it not heating much or not heating at all? If not at all it maybe the protective thermostatic switch. There are two over-temperature protectors mounted right on the heater tank, one for gas and one for electric. They are push button resets. See your Suburban instruction manual. Another cause of no heat at all would be a burned out element. Turning the electric element on, even for a very short time, without water in the tank will burn out the element. If it's heating some, but not much, it's probably a defective element.

Well...... Just rechecked all the water lines in and out of the hot water heater. Both the lines were open as they should when dewinterizing. However I hadn't closed off the bypass valve. It seems when the bypass is left open all we were doing when we turned the tap on was recirculating the hot water with a little flowing into the line to the taps. Closed the bypass and we had hot water immediately.
Oh well nothing damaged but my pride.
