Calendar Event: new table in 178 Posted: 14 Nov 2015 at 2:10pm |
Does anyone know if it is safe to screw a bottom pipe falange for a table in the dining area of an r-pod 178. I didn't see any tanks in that area but don't know how thick the floor is.
Thanks for any info. s&lmaz

A couple owners have changed to a post style table. You will need to add reinforcement, the floor is a sandwich of foam, between plywood sheets, with an aluminum frame. If i was going to do this mod, I would track down the AL floor "joists", and screw a sheet of 1/2 birch ply, properly weather protected to them, then secure through that with the mounting screws/bolts for the base.

I made a freestanding table that can be moved or rotated as needed. We sometimes use it in the tent room also. |

I replaced the table in my 179 with a similar table. I screwed the base into a piece of 3/4 plywood the same size as the top. That way we can scoot the table around or even take it apart for travel by laying it on the bed. I made the top rectangular so we can use different seating positions, or slide it out of the way. Much handier than a fixed table. One just has to learn not to lean on the table when getting up.

We also built a new table for our 173. We don't use the dinette area for sleeping, so the table didn't have to be the same size in order to fit between the benches and make the bed platform. It is made from 3/4" cabinet grade(10 ply) birch plywood. the finish is 10 coats of table varnish. It folds flat for traveling and is very sturdy.
