Hi Folks,
Just wondering if anyone has taken an actual wheel to wheel outside width measurement. FR claims 8' approx, which I hope is an overestimation because then I will literally only have 1" clearance on each side when backing in my inlaws gate. Thanks in advance! |

I've never measured it, but it for sure is very close to 8 feet outside of fender to outside of fender.

That what I am guessing. They probably leave no more than 1" undersize on each side, if anything at all, to accommodate for differences in tires. Last night we decided we want to put the pod the opposite way on the parking pad if at all possible, which can't be done due to the fences, so I am beginning to consider buying a trailer dolly like the link below. The 171 is only ~3,200 fully loaded, and I am pulling ~25' in onto a level paved pad, so something like this might work:

I like the Trailer Valet. I would like to get one someday, but need to hold off a bit. It isn't as critical for me, however, I can certainly see where it would work great for you as you would have fine control over the movement of the trailer to fit the tight space. I also saw that you can get a drill adapter to make it a powered dolly. The only downside is that the adapter costs an additional $45, which seems a bit steep. The convenience of using a cordless drill though would make it a desirable option.

The drill attachment is one of the things I like about it. I have a nice new high end Dewalt hardwired drill, and there are outlets at the cottage for me to plug into. The Valet gets decent reviews when used on hard flatter surfaces. I already got the WAF, so I might grab one after I consult my FiL. The money is well worth it if we can get the pod door on the proper side of the driveway, so we don't have to walk sideways squeezed against the cottage just to get into the trailer.

OK.. just measured our pod.. I get 97 1/4 inches. So 8 feet 1 1/4 inches.

Thanks! My FiL confirmed that the gate is actually 9' minus the hinges, probably giving me 3-4" on both sides. So it will be tight, but doable.
