I am in the process of getting our new 179 set up for camping season and ran across some conversation about surge protection.

I had totally forgotten about that so I jumped on here to see what I could find, and I did find some reference to Progressive Industries EMSHW30C Surge Protector.

That said, I am looking to you folks for recommendations. I think I would prefer something I can plug in.

As Always
Thanks Folks for you help.

Since you asked, my preference is the SurgeGuard 34830 by technology Research. Available at Amazon, CW, etc.

http://www.amazon.com/Technology-Research-34830-Portable-Surge/dp/B00T36Q7R2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1461546668&sr=8-1&keywords=34830+surge

It just plugs into the power pole and protects against pretty much anything the CG can throw at you, including over/under voltage and miswires. Much more than just a surge protector.

I didn't feel comfortable (or motivated) enough to do a hard wired surge protector so I got the Progressive ems-pt30c. Seems to do the job. I got a cable lock to run around the pedestal. It won't stop someone who's truly motivated but it will stop it from growing legs.

We prefer the hardwired, can't forget it, and "they" have to steal the whole camper to get it.. Wink

That said, I believe every camper should use something, and anything is better then nothing..

and that said, thousands and thousands of RVers, don't use one, and have never had a problem. But like any "insurance".. if you need it, you need it.

But unlike insurance, this prevents the loss. With normal insurance you have to suffer the loss before you can make a claim. That said, even the ounce of prevention is not free. Camp on! Cool
