Topic: Rdome stability in wind? Posted: 31 May 2016 at 6:51am |
How well does the rdome withstand wind (such as camping near the beach or during a typical summer thunderstorm)? Can it be staked down in any way? I have yet to set mine up but have watched numerous videos that don't address this. Thanks.

In my experience it does fine in a light / moderate wind - if I see a storm coming I will try to take mine down.
The one night we had ours out i& a thunder storm came thru it caused ours to collapse.
Luckily nothing broke, but that would be my concern.

We always take our dome down when winds are forecasted to exceed 15 mph. We've had two poles to break in the wind.

I agree with Sailor323, we had ours up at Cape Hatteras the first year in 20-25 miles per hour winds, got slammed around a bit. 15 mph and below were not a problem.

Mine stays up until it's a real Thunderstorm rolling through. Properly staked and if they aren't directly facing the big winds Domes do really well in decent winds. I've watched them in 40MPH gusts be pushed to the side a bit and then pop back up.
But that is certainly to the high end of extremes for tolerance.

At least on my 2016 R-dome there are places to stake it down. Have never tried though.

Thank you. Stupid question number two, did it come with stakes. My rdome is brand new, 2016. Currently, the camper is in a storage facility. I didn't open the rdome so I don't know!

Yes it came with light worthless stakes. They would hardly go in soft ground. I bought a dozen good heavy weight alluminum ones at OSH for 99 cents each,
