He may have been referring to T-strap bolts
I have read where people have used Sail Slugs or sail Slides and sewed some on the edge of the tarp. They are about $2.00 each and come in many sizes and shapes http://www.ronstan.com/marine/product.asp?ProdNo=PNP17T |

The "T Strap Bolts" you pictured are essentially what I made for my awning mod. Mine have a bend so that they will be at the correct angle to hold the poles in place at the bottom track on the R-Pod. I did not know they were available ready-made as I did not see any at my local hardware stores. If I had found them, it would have saved some time. Mine were a learning experience though as it gave me more practice with the flux welder I had originally purchased when I wanted to try making a generator mount. That did not work out, but the awning parts did.

Thanks StephenH, let me see if I have this
You thread the smooth T portion through the channel and somehow attach the tarp to the threaded portion? JandL - I think those sail things might work, if the bulbous part is what goes in the channel and the loop part can be zip tied to the tarp. Is that it? Thanks |

Yes the round part slides into the rails. Their are many shapes and sizes of slugs. They would be cheaper and lighter than the bolts. The rail on my trailer is 14mm diameter

If you look at my mods (link in my signature), you will see how I use the parts I made. They don't hold the awning canvas. The rope sewn in does that. They hold the bottom end of the support poles.

Thanks for the detail pictures. I get it now. My efforts to use a 8 foot tent pole did not work because I could not thread the tarp through the channel without it getting snagged on the sharp edge of the channel. It seemed more work than reward. I will go back to the creative drawing board and try your approach.
