    Posted: 11 Jun 2016 at 4:59pm
Hi All -

My battery is not being charged by the converter when plugged into shore power.

All 110 appliances & outlets are working, but I don't hear the hum of the converter charging the battery.

The battery is 4 or 5 years old, I did hook it up to my battery charger and it did not seem to want to take a charge.

If a battery is shot, does the converter not even try to charge it?  (Meaning no humming sound?)

I am just hoping there is nothing wrong with the converter, I am OK getting a new battery.

Thanks!

A simple test (with no instruments) to see if the converter is working would be:

Unplug the shore power. Disconnect the battery(s) and do not allow the battery leads to touch anything or each other. Plug back into shore power and see if the lights and other 12v stuff is working as it normally would. If everything works, the converter is probably OK.

If you have a volt meter, test voltage at the battery leads. It should be somewhere in the 13-14 volt range.

Considering the age of your battery, I suspect it is at the end of it's useful life.

My battery is only one year old and my pod converter isn't working to recharge. There is no sound coming from it when on shore power as is normal. I drove over 500 miles and the battery measured only 12.15 volts upon reaching home, so it provided some 12v power but not enough to run things for long. The TV tells you if the connections are OK.
The battery water looked OK too. I'm going to disconnect the battery and place it on my CTEK charger which has ability to check out battery for issues and do various charge cycles. The battery has been on a charger same as I use for my motorcycles.

Check the two 40A fuses on the 12V side. If they are good, then it may be that you have a bad converter which will need to be replaced. There is another thread about a bad batch of converters. Please contact your dealer for assistance.

I checked the fuses before this recent short trip and all OK. I had the trailer plugged into shore power yet battery was dead before trip after only a short period of 2 weeks not plugged in.

Your converter and battery may both be fine. The propane detector draws a constant ~0.16A and the wall thermostat adds some. In two weeks this adds up to (0.16x24x14) ~54AH. The standard dealer supplied Gp 24 battery is rated at 86AH so you're down 63% before you leave. The solution to this is either leave the Pod plugged in or disconnect the battery.

+1. This answer is better than mine.

I installed a battery cut-off switch. You can see it in my mods.

My battery already has a cut-off. My battery charges to full charge level via external charger with no load. The problem seems to be the power convertor. Mine has  model WF-8955 PEC.
A dealer tells me the lower circuit board is what usually blows.
I had a bad one on my last RV. I suspect that connecting to shore power w/o a switch off, then back on after connection leads to these problems. Not that I know this for a fact.
