I have a 2017 Rpod 179 and I would like to know how to bypass the water heater while sanitizing the fresh water tank. Does anyone have a picture of the shutoff valve positions

Thanks

I wouldn't bypass it while sanitizing.  Can't hurt to sanitize the HW tank.

Right, it doesn't hurt to allow a little chlorinated water into the HWH, it's steel lined and easy enough to flush out using city water by allowing the hot water side to run for a few minutes. Probably something you don't want to do with anti-freeze though.

I have a little different school of thought when it comes to sanitizing the plumbing system. I do it more often and I only let it sit for a few hours before flushing. I have seen how even diluted chlorine can damage just about anything.

Good luck! Have Fun!

The problem I can see happening with the 2-valve setup is when winterizing. The instructions say not to let RV antifreeze flow into the water heater as it will corrode the sacrificial anode rod. I would not want antifreeze in the water heater, but would see the need to put antifreeze through the hot water pipes along with the cold water pipes if using that instead of air purging the lines. Since there is no valve on the hot water side, what is to prevent antifreeze from back-flowing into the heater?

Now, if Forest River switched from Suburban to Atwood heaters with the aluminum tank that doesn't need an anode rod, it would be a moot point.

My current camper only has one valve, which I wondered about the first time I winterized it.  I had the same question about backflow into the tank so after I finished winterizing I removed the anode rod to see what would come out.  Nothing did.
