I have a 2016 178 Hood river edition, with A/C and antenna on the roof. We live in snow country and are forced this year to store our rpod outside this winter. I can get a cover and/or rig up a poly tarp to cover the top. The A/C unit has rounded edges, so that is not a problem. The problem is with the antenna with the two "wings". There is no way that the antenna wings will stand up to any kind of significant snow.
So my questions are: 1) can the antenna wings be removed? 2) can the entire antennna asssembly be removed from the roof? |

The entire assembly can be removed. Not difficult at all. You will be left with a stub sticking up, just place something over it to protect the tarp/cover.
I do not remember anyone having damage from the cover and snow. I know a couple owners, when the bat wing first came out, placed supports under the ends of the "wings", just in case. |

I use a pool noodle cut to length, slit along one side to slide onto each side of the wings. I use a bungee cord to keep them in place. I do likewise with any sharp or pointy projection (rain gutter extensions, etc.). Then I put the cover on. It helps protect the cover from tearing.

Another suggestion would be to get a plastic tub large enough to put over the antenna, and then put your cover over that. Safe Travels.

We get quite a bit of snow each year and in 7 year have never had a problem with the bat wings! I brush off the snow regularly.
