2015 Toyota Tacoma with tow package, 4 x4. 2016 179. Avg. 11.6 mpg from Olympia WA to Durango CO and back with two 18 foot kayaks on truck pop-top.
Happy with the package. |

I originally towed my former 2013 R-Pod 177 with a 2003 4Runner. Then replaced the 4Runner with a 2013 Touareg TDI. I might give the nod to the Toyota for reliability (the VW has been pretty goo so far), and for off road the 4Runner is hands down the winner, but the Touareg is so much better on the road and towing.

New to r-pods, recently purchased a 179 and am hoping to tow across country with my 2016 AWD Kia Sorento, which has a 5000 lb. tow rating. Thoughts?

Given that it has a 5000 lb tow rating, I would say that you made a good choice. You will still want to use a weight distribution hitch with sway control. We use an Equal-i-zer 4-point sway control hitch. Others use a Fastway E2 hitch. Others use an Andersen No-Sway hitch. There are others out there also. It is always better to have sway control and not need it than to need it and not have it.
Other than that, follow your owner's manual and Kia's instructions for towing and you will be okay. |

Hello Podder Family,
Thank you all for your great replies and very helpful information i really appreciate it Does anyone have any thoughts, knowledge, insight or recommendations on any vans that might do the job - of being my everyday car and a tow vehicle for my 180? i am a massage therapist so i need a vehicle that can haul my massage table and accessories, while giving me easy access to getting these things in and out - thus, thinking that a van might be a great option. |

That's great to know! I'm glad you mentioned it because we are in the market for a 177 and we were wondering the same thing. We have a 2009 Highlander as well with 5,000 tow capacity too. Curious, what brand hitch and sway bar you use?

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Fastway E2 600/6000. We have the round bar version for our Highlander and 179. My wife hated the old WDH we had that had a separate sway bar; she has no problems with the E2. |
