I have read several posts about adding a vertical sliding window to the door of our Pod.

We are thinking about installing a window in our door.  Has anyone had any security issues or leaks with the vertical sliders?

A second question--vintage Technologies has 2 sizes that seem to work- a 14x21 and a 15x24.  does anyone have thoughts about a preference and why?

Thanks
Vann

Portholes look better in rings pods.. just sayin'... LOL

I have not heard anyone here or on the FB group who had an issue with the window of any kind after a proper install.

Our vertical slider has worked well. I guess someone could force it open and get in. Then again, the way these are constructed, someone could just punch through the door or wall and do the same. It is like the old adage, "locks only keep honest people honest."

We got an opening marine porthole that is about 10" and put it into the door.  It worked great and really fits with the retro look of the pod.  The ring flange on the porthole was the same thickness as the door so it fit in just right.  The only bad thing is that you can't open and close it with the door closed b/c the screen door blocks it.  On the other hand, the screen door makes a porthole screen unnecessary.  If you want a picture, p.m. and we'll figure out how to send one to you.

I like the size of the porthole because it is big enough to let in light, but doesn't affect the rigidity of the door.  Insofar as security goes, it'd be pretty tough to break the plastic lens and reach to the latch.  .... and no one is going to fit through a porthole.

+1

On the security issue, I would think a door window no more or less secure than any of the other windows. While better than a tent, these things are not that hard to get in to. Get the window you like and enjoy it.

I don't think any criminal would attempt to enter you pod thru a door window, they would crack the door, criminals do what is easy because they think easy, makes no sense. Do what you think is comfortable to you.

We had a 5th wheel trailer on a remote piece of property and a bear broke in 3 different times.  The bear would grab the lower corner below the latch/lock and peel it back.  The bent part was between the lower hinge and the lock.  The R Pod doors look similar.  Each time the total on the replacement door cost me $700.00, so after that 3rd time, we threw in the towel, pulled it back to town and sold it.

I figured the bear could get in faster than we could with a key.  So, it would not be difficult to get in you were willing to wreck the door.

Thanks for all of the input.
Luckily we don't spend a lot of time in bear country!
We have read all of the posts about the installation and feel comfortable doing the job.  I talked with the nice people at Vintage Technologies and they are very helpful. They know the R Pods well. I'll keep you informed
Thanks

Bear country is fun country. I would not worry about window security and if you are worried, just leave your door unlocked. That will prevent anyone from breaking stuff if they want in.
